Skiing..
A skiing and flying combination makes a great winter
holiday and the spectacular Chamonix region is a perfect venue. Towered
by the famous Mont Blanc this huge area has more than 850kms of groomed
ski runs plus numerous off-piste trails and the snow is reliably good
from New Year to Easter. Included and just a few minutes from the lodge
are the excellent ski resorts of St Gervais, Megeve and Les Contamines
that have the best selection of groomed pistes in the area. There are
450kms of linked ski runs plus numerous off-piste runs suiting all from
the total beginner to the advanced skier or snowboarder. The local ski
schools are excellent and the ski and snowboard hire shops plentiful.
The five Chamonix resorts 20 minutes away are where
deep and steep skiing and snowboarding is found. There are many high
mountain off-piste trails including the famous 'Vallée
Blanche Glacier' a 20kms long ski run and the 'Les Grands Montets' one
of Europe's great off-piste areas.
Not far from the Lodge are the excellent ski resorts
of Flaine, Sameôns, Les Carroz and Grands
Bornand making it possible to ski a different area each day. Many of our
clients enjoy this variety rather than being restricted to just one
resort.
Flying..
Close to the Lodge are a number of excellent flying
sites with launches between 1350m and 3800m asl. Please look at the 'Sites
Guide' pages for details.
In December and January the flying conditions are
gentle and the views within the snow covered mountains are stunning!
February onwards the smooth winter thermals awaken often giving good
climbs with the opportunity of making short local XC flights. The views
are even more stunning at altitude!!
During the mid winter months the flying is best after
13.00hrs when the light face breeze at launch starts up. Before this
time the air is often katabatic. The flying often begins earlier in the
day from February onwards and deciding whether the snow is better than
the thermals is a difficult decision!
There is excellent flying from our local 'Plaine
Joux' site 750m above the valley floor and opposite the Lodge. If the
conditions allow then landing in our back garden is possible at the end
of the day!
There is flying from Chamonix 'PlanPraz' a 1000m above
Chamonix town or from 'Les Grands Montets' above Argentiere 2100m above
the valley floor.
The magnificent 'Vallée
Blanche' flight launching from 2700m above the valley floor and taking
the 20kms flight over the glacier is breathtaking.
Dennis has been skiing in this region for more than 20
years and flying here 17 years. He is a qualified paragliding instructor
and tandem pilot and offers tandem flights all the year.
Winter Costs and
Service..
From January 6th, all of February and up to March 8th
our winter accommodation costs include transport to and from the local
ski lifts and afternoon fly guiding.
Bed and Breakfast in a shared twin or double room is
46 Euros per person per night.
Bed and Breakfast in a single room is 58 Euros per
person per night.
Bed and Breakfast cost for December 26th to January
6th is 58 Euros.
